Job Description:

The Consultant, Violence Prevention liaises with all levels of staff in the delivery of violence prevention programs and works closely with other HR staff to ensure organizational and department objectives are met as they relate to violence prevention. In addition, liaising with Patient Services/program directors and other department supervisory staff helps to promote and ensure compliance with applicable legislation/regulations. Externally, the Violence Prevention Consultant liaises with other OH&S professionals, WorkSafeBC (WSBC), and representatives of other health authorities to establish and utilize networks to maintain a pool of resources to meet the organization’s violence prevention requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop procedures based on violence-related policies and programs that meet the organization’s requirements and logistics.
  • Prevent and reduce the occurrence of violence-related incidents through consultation with key stakeholder groups and recommended prevention strategies. Engage staff, managers and senior leaders in the analysis of violence data and support them in the development of action plans to address issues.
  • Coordinate the completion of VRAs, using a prioritized list of sites and liaising with Safety and Prevention Consultants and operational representatives.
  • Provide key input into the development and evaluation of violence-related policies and programs to support the achievement of Safety and
  • Prevention’s goals, objectives, and needs, including drafting policy documents, working with key stakeholders, recommending approaches, and implementing approved policies and programs in order to eliminate or effectively control risks, as identified in the health care setting.
  • Monitor performance regarding compliance with the Violence Prevention program and consult with the Safety & Prevention team regarding organizational goals, objectives, and needs.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to staff and leaders regarding effective violence prevention and management techniques; coach and mentor staff and enable development opportunities.

Job Requirements:

  • Level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, such as Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S).
  • Three to five (3-5) years of related, progressive health and safety experience in a large, complex organization, OR
  • A diploma in a field such as OH&S PLUS (5-7) years of related, progressive health and safety experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and achievements relating to the prevention of violence in the workplace.
  • Experience performing risk assessments and/or providing violence prevention training preferred.
  • Working knowledge, understanding and expertise in violence prevention, including Trauma Informed Practice principles.
  • Skilled facilitator in violence prevention education and training.
  • A passion for safe and healthy workplaces, with the expertise and vision to enhance our workplace violence prevention initiatives and programs.
